My heart breaks for the people of Africa. It seems that every country on the dark continent is gripped by famine and warfare, Sudan is no exception. It is interesting to think that this country, which has been unable to protect it’s people from human rights violations, was once the heart of some of the greatest kingdoms to rule in the area. Nubia and Kush were built from the same stones that Sudan is built from today.

To be fair to the modern state of Sudan, things might have been a lot different a few thousand years ago. There are some theories that the land which the country currently rests on was once more fertile and wet than it is today. The arid landscape of today is certainly a major contributor of the problems that Sudan has today.
